This weekend I had the pleasure of seeing I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change at the Hope Mill Theatre – a funny, poignant, and sometimes painfully accurate tribute to the quirks of modern love and long-term relationships, all wrapped in classic Jewish humour.
It was laugh-out-loud in places, and uncomfortably close to the truth in others.
What struck me most is how much of our relationship experience comes down to miscommunication, mismatched expectations, and the quiet stories we tell ourselves about the other person – or even about what we “should” want.
And that’s where my work as a mediator and coach comes in.
Whether you’re navigating a difficult separation, trying to co-parent respectfully, or facing tension in a business partnership, the root issues often lie beneath the surface. Humour – like the kind in this show – reveals what’s going unspoken. Mediation helps bring those things safely into the open.
If you’re stuck in a story that no longer fits, maybe it’s time for a rewrite.
